Funeral services for Alfred D. Novotny, age 79, of Abilene, formerly of Solomon, will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 9, 2016 at the Carlson-Becker Funeral Home in Solomon with Mr. Roger Walls officiating. . Mr. Novotny passed away Saturday, January 2, 2016 at the Salina Regional Health Center in Salina.
He was born August 17, 1936, in Holyrood, Kansas the son of Winslow J. and Marie C. (Voss) Novotny. He served his country in the United States Army and enjoyed hunting, fishing, mechanic work, and farming.
Alfred worked with concrete and later owned Novotny Trucking.
On August 16, 1965 he married Donna Longbine in Oklahoma. She passed away February 4, 1995. He is survived by his daughters Debra Dettweiler of Salina, Shellie Dettweiler of Augusta, Kansas, Amanda Glover of Hutchinson; niece Donna Bonneau of Abilene; nephew Steven Longbine of Abilene; brother Roy Novotny of Larned, Kansas, sisters Elizabeth Holmes and Marjorie Reed of South Hutchinson, Kansas, Dorothy Eisiminger of Hutchinson, Kansas; 2 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Donna, 5 brothers, and his parents.
Alfred’s final resting place will be in the Prairie Mound Cemetery near Solomon with military honors provided by the Ft. Riley Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alfred D. Novotny Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of the Carlson-Becker Funeral Home, P.O. Box 308, Solomon, Kansas 67480.
