Obituary for Delbert Leonard Smith

Delbert L. Smith departed this life to go to his heavenly home on April 28, 2023. He was born on May 2, 1925 to David and Ruth (Gessell) Smith near Enterprise, Kansas. He graduated from Enterprise High School with the class of 1943. He was a combat Army veteran serving in the Pacific during World War II where he received the Combat Infantry Badge, Asiatic Pacific Battle Star Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, and the WWII Victory Medal.

Delbert married Lorene Miller on June 1, 1949. He owned and operated a dairy farm east of Enterprise until his retirement. Delbert was a lifelong member of the Enterprise United Methodist Church where he served on the Board of Trustees, Administrative Board, the Center Township Board, Dickinson County Farm Bureau Board, DHIA Board and the Abilene Co-Op Board.

Delbert was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Lorene; son, Robert; sisters, Betty Johnson, Helen Hettenbach and Lilla Smith; and a brother, David Smith. He is survived by a sister, Joyce Bielefeld, Junction City; son, Dee (Reinis) Smith, Wichita; daughters, Teresa (Ed) Hawkins, Ft. Myer, FL; Diane (Scot) Wolfington, Wichita; grandchildren Brett (Caroline) Wolfington, Ben (Stephanie) Wolfington, Abbie (fiance John Duggan) Smith, and Sidney Smith; great-grandchildren Whitten and Emma Wolfington.

A Celebration of Life will be held June 17th, 2023 at 10:30am at Enterprise Community Church. Inurnment will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
