Obituary for Connie Holmes
Connie Holmes, 73, of Abilene, passed away Tuesday, July 19th, 2022 at her home with her loving family beside her.
She was born May 8, 1949, in Newton Iowa, The daughter of Ken and Mardy Maakestad. They moved to South Dakota where she grew up and graduated from Sturgis High School, Sturgis SD.
She then moved to Denver, Colorado, and went to work at the Samsonite Suitcase Co. where she met her husband of 51 years Stan Holmes. They moved to Abilene where she worked at Abilene Country Club, Buds Tire, Jostens, and 25 years with Hurlbut Corp. Convenience Store. Connie retired from Abilene Public Schools as Garfield/Eisenhower kitchens manager.
Connie is survived by daughter Tina Warford (Terry) of Salina, sisters Sheila Limbo (Bill) and Dawn Wagness (Ron) both of Sturgis, SD. brothers Scott Maakestad (Ruthie) of Littleton, CO. and Jim Maakestad, Sheridan WY. Grandchildren Kenny Holmes (Skylar), Pam Steinbruck (Ben), T.J. Warford (Danielle) of Salina, Anthony Westby (Ying) of the Peoples Republic of China, and Kayla Rowland of Salina. Great-grandchildren Spencer, Drax, and Scarlett Holmes. Sadie, Seth, Sage, Ethan Steinbruck of Salina, Grace and Ava Rowland of Concordia, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Her parents, husband Stan, and son Anthony preceded her death.
Connie and her family have chosen cremation. Graveside Services will be 10:30 A.M., Friday, July 29, 2022 at Prairie Mound Cemetery in Solomon. Family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5-7 PM at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Connie Holmes Memorial Fund. Memorials may be dropped off or mailed to Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414, NW Third St., Abilene, Kansas 67410.
